
Project Summary:
The project is managed by The Honduran Ecologist Community, Development and Participation, is a regional umbrella organization that encompasses 6 environmental NGOs they are running an Environmental Conservation Program on the northern coast of Honduras.
The HE is a civil Organization, non-political, non profit to join efforts among environmental NGOs, coordinating joint projects that use technical, logistical and economic resources in an optimum way, obtaining in this manner the adequate management of the existing Natural Resources.
Volunteer work:
Painting the schools in each community, gardening, planting trees, signs, local community infrastructure such as souvenir stores.
Location:
The project is located in a national park on the northern coast of Honduras in the department of Atlantida, is an expanse of 178,000 acres of tropical wilderness thriving with mangroves, forests, and coral reefs. The Park provides refuge for more than 100 threatened and endangered species, and is home to 44 Ladino and Garifuna (indigenous Afro-Caribbean) communities.
Accommodation and Food
You can live in a rustic lodge or with locals. All the accommodation is clean and has running water. You will be leaving with Garífunas Families in Tornabé area. The families are very nice and friendly. You will have the opportunity to share with their kids, play games and learn about their culture. You will see also typical garífunas houses around. Your home stay family has been given an orientation to learn about the culture; the roles and responsibilities of the families, cultural differences between your country and Honduras; Trainee health and sanitation.
Travel Arrangements and Transportation
Booking air travel is your responsibility, but we are more than happy to help you as needed. For domestic traveling and specific logistics RJI will provide the respective information at the time.

• This project is offer throughout the year.
• Individual or group volunteer (minimum 6).
• Duration 1 to 8 weeks.
• Age 18+
General Requirements
Spanish is desired but not mandatory. The most important requirement its to bring a positive attitude, be willing to get involved in our Central America culture. You must love the outdoors and not mind working in any weather, be easy going and be able to work alongside the local community as much of your time will be spent with the locals and families and finally be ready to enjoy this experience.
