Two additional workshops have been added to the Earth Charter activities that are part of Youth Challenge International Volunteer Program. The workshops were implemented at Juanilama in Santa Rosa de Pocosol by Canadian volunteers in July, 2009. Through games and talks, the volunteers presented to the community the principles of The Earth Charter looking for meditation and a life style change from the community trying to reach sustainability that will allow us to keep living on this planet.
Additionally, the volunteers worked on the construction of a bridge that connects Juanilama with other surrounded communities. Finally as in previous projects, the volunteering program supported the “Asociación Agroecológica de Juanilama” by providing maintenance to the nature reserve, which main purpose, besides the protection of natural resources, is to provide an income to the community through ecotourism.
