Field Programs
In the interest of promoting alternative models of international cooperation through young volunteers, we at Youth Challenge Costa Rica strive to give you the opportunity to incorporate yourself in many diverse programs. The program you choose will depend on your specific expectations and interests.
Before you travel to the country to participate in any of our programs it is very important that you know exactly what to expect.
In general, our programs offer the possibility of:
Contact with nature
Interaction with indigenous communities
The development of social programs and health programs
A cultural exchange with international volunteers
New learning opportunities
Learning Spanish
When you participate in these programs, you will be joining one of the many teams of international volunteers that move into distant, and at times difficult to access, areas of Costa Rica. Typical projects of this program would be helping in the construction of schools, health clinics, rural aqueducts, and rural community-based eco-tourism projects, among others.
Normally, a volunteer team will work side-by-side with members of the community in which you are working. Your team could consist of up to 12 volunteers that coordinate tasks with local leaders or specialists in protected wildlife areas, as is the case with the park rangers. Living conditions are very basic, and the work is rigorous.
