Altamira, Puntarenas, Costa Rica

Asoprola is a 'grassroots' organization, comprised mainly of small coffee producers and their families (children, youth, adults and senior citizens). It is located in district of Buenos Aires in the Province of Puntarenas, southern Costa Rica. Altamira also lies within the buffer zone of La Amistad International Park.
This organization was created in 2002 with the aim of improving the quality of life for farmers, and it is focused mainly on organic production, ecological and community tourism, marketing and the creation of new products.
The goal of the group, is to protect, conserve and respect the natural resources of the area. This is achieved through environmental education and the use of products that are beneficial for the environment.
About your volunteer work
You can expect to help the organization with the maintenance of trails, assist with the production of organic horticulture, in particular with organic coffee, and other environmental activities. Work schedule should be arranged directly you an Asoprola representative.
Accommodation
There are two available options for accommodation in Altamira:
a) Living in the Asoprola centre in a private room. The centre has electricity and running water.
b) Or staying with a local family that lives in the Altamira community. All accommodations are clean, with electricity and running water. Families make and extra effort to make their guests feel comfortable and welcome in their home.
Food
Typical Costa Rican dishes should be expected using local organic products (rice, beans, vegetables, fruit.)
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided by the host family or at the Asoprola Center.

TESORO, Bahia Drake, Costa Rica
The Tesoro organization was initiated by a women’s association in the community of Los Planes. The group formed with the idea of being self- supporting while living in harmony with nature. After intensive work, Tesoro today has 12 hectares of protected forest, with signed trails and an eco-lodge.
This group of women and their families are contributing to the natural resources conservation of the area through environmental education programs.
About your volunteer work
Generally, volunteers are expected to help witheEnglish classes and assist in the Tesoro Verde Lodge providing assistance with visitors and the signing of trails.
Type of accommodation
You can choose to live in the lodge or with a local family that lives in the community. All accommodations are clean and have running water. Families make an extra effort to make their guests feel comfortable and welcome in their home.
Food
Typical Costa Rican dishes should be expected (rice, beans, vegetables, fruit.) Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided by the association or by the host family or by the association.
