Costa Rica: Children with disabilities

disabilitiesProject Details

The special education center was started by a group of parents who joined together with the hopes of improving the lives of their sons, daughters’ or relatives affected by mental or physical disabilities. They want their lives to not be different from anyone else`s. Accepting disabilities and redefining life within the limitations imposed by disease is the biggest obstacle for people with disabilities. The goal of the schools is to ensure that students with disabilities get off to a good start and that they have the support needed to succeed.

Volunteer work:

Volunteers will work directly with people with disabilities, providing physical therapy, acting lessons, arts, hand crafts and tutoring, as well as pursuing activities to get money for children support. Ability to help in the work of rehabilitation work will be greatly appreciated: joint mobilizations, strength training and exercising daily plays a crucial role in the process of healing and recovering and also offers a good training experience; this is the goal of physical therapy exercises. Stretching and strengthening activities are only a few types of physical therapy exercises. Balance, joint control, and muscle re-training are other types of physical therapy exercises important to development.

The project is located in 20 minutes from San Jose by bus.
